It’s gonna be big. My painting is ridiculous. Also, the official launch of the book, which includes my painting from last year, as well as something like 10% Otis alumni and teachers. It’s kinda awesome that way.
Here’s my painting for the upcoming Crazy 4 Cult 5 at Gallery1988. This is my tribute to cult and beloved movies that have been based in NYC, and holy crap have there been a lot of them. I’m really happy with this and really excited for the show, just couldn’t wait to share with ya’ll. The show opens July 8th and should be outstanding.

I realize that Tumblr doesn’t allow you to zoom in, but just take my word, there’s references to 36 movies in there, maybe I’ll list them all after the show.
Also, Titan has released a book showcasing the last 4 years of the Crazy 4 Cult show, with an intro by Kevin Smith. My piece about Los Angeles from last year is somewhere in the book, go buy it, it’s available at most bookstores now (they still have those things?)!

Hello there everybody. Been really busy lately working in the print shop, we recently moved from a tiny 2 car garage to a loft space that is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2400 sq. ft. Makes all the difference in the world. It used to be a product photographer’s workspace, so there’s really great lighting, but also shutters on the windows to keep the place from greenhousing.
Here’s a blurry pic of me where you can sort of see the size of the place.

In the bottom left you can see a tiny glimpse of set of posters I designed and printed for a video shoot, one I was immensely proud to be a part of. A friend I’ve known since middle school, Pete Levin, recently directed a video for the Foo Fighters, it’s a song off their new album called “Miss the Misery”, and he asked if I would contribute some prints for use in the background. So I obliged him.

Note: those are not stills from the video, those are my crappy blinds in the background.
The video for “Miss the Misery” will premiere this Friday on Fuse, as part of their Foo Fighter Friday special. It’s an awesome video, one which I can’t share too much about (read: anything beyond what I’ve posted here), but I’ll post it when I can, I’m glad I could be a part of it, thanks Pete!
Happy New Year everyone, hope your holidays went well and that you’re adjusting to the new year in fine fashion. In any case, it’s a new year, and new shows, first up, a tribute to comedians:

This Friday, should be a lot of fun. Funny or Die and Michael Rapaport are hosting, so I gonna try to make fun of how he runs (you ever watched the ending of True Romance? He looks like an ostrich trying to run hurdles.) without getting my ass kicked.
I got asked if I could take aim at Jon Lovitz, which I knew would be interesting because of all the varied characters he is known for. I think it turned out pretty good. I had fun with my references.
“The Devil, The Liar, The Critic, and The Thespian”

Anyway, it was a lot of fun to paint, and can’t wait to see the entire show.
You can see the full list of artists here, as well some preview images at the g1988 blog.

should be amazing, wish I could be there.
Here’s mine, called “Rolling Stones”, painted on a Rubik’s cube.

Here are my two paintings for the upcoming Horrorwood show at the WWA Gallery in Culver City, opening Oct. 15th. Based on The Descent and Halloween, my idea was to highlight how far the female character has come in horror movies, from really the first woman survivor (yet she’s still very helpless most of the time) to the most complex and self-sufficient female survivor yet.

(forgive the crappy quality of the picture, will get a better one on opening night)

Hope to see you there!

And I’m not going to talk too much about it right now, but here’s what I’m working on next, gonna be cool….

Couple quick updates on some shows I’ll have work in this fall/winter:
“Process” - J&K Gallery, Arcadia, CA, Sept. 10th-Nov. 5th
“Horrorwood” - WWA Gallery, Culver City, CA, Oct. 15th-Dec. 4th (w/ tons of Otis folk!)
“Bad Dads - A tribute to Wes Anderson movies” - Gallery TBA, San Francisco, CA, Oct. 30th opening
“Under the Influence - Comedians of the 70’s & 80’s” - Gallery 1988, Los Angeles, CA, Jan. 7th opening
So yeah, that’s gonna keep me busy, hope I can see you at most of those (won’t be able to make the S.F. opening unfortunately), I’ve got some really rad ideas for each of them and am in process on all of them.
Anyway, to tide you over, here’s a little drawing I did for my other gig, (that being screenprinting) and which I’ll be printing live this Friday at the Music Box in Hollywood during Beatdown. Beats, bass, drinks, and live printing (and me!), what more could you ask for?

til next time….
Well Crazy 4 Cult 4 is over, and it was an awesome time, and a lot of awesome work, I was really happy I got to be a part of it. Apparently something big is going down for next year’s show, I haven’t the slightest clue as to what it might be though. Thanks to everyone who came through and/or supported!
Anyway, as for myself, I have 2 shows coming up this fall, one at the J&K Gallery in Arcadia, CA in September, and then a horror-movie themed show at WWA Gallery in Culver City, I’ll have more info as it becomes available.
I have some new work which I haven’t gotten around to posting, bear with me. But I don’t want to leave you imageless. So here’s some color seperation I was messing around with earlier. I might have to make a print at some point.

This Friday night! If you’re in L.A., stop by, should be a hoot!
Tonight! yay!

Hello all, it’s been forever, sorry to be away. Between working two jobs and general busyness haven’t had time to update, but that doesn’t mean I ain’t been keeping on keeping on. I wanted to wait til I talked to Jensen down at G1988 as well. This is the one I’ve been previewing before and took me a loooong time to really nail down. Still got some tweaks to do, but I’m pretty happy. Consider this your first preview:

L to R: Point Break, Plan 9, Resevoir Dogs, Bill & Ted, Pulp Fiction, Up in Smoke, True Romance, Boogie Nights, Repo Man, Big Lebowski. Background: Blade Runner
This will be in the Crazy 4 Cult show next month at Gallery 1988, I still have plans for a New York one, an all-Godzilla Tokyo one (with maybe a little Akira thrown in), and a Shermer, Ill. one (the fictional town where John Hughes set all of his movies). Sooner rather than later this will also be available on a skateboard and as a print at my Artsprojekt store, as soon as I really get that going in earnest.
And lastl, big ups and much congratulations to my fellow Shomakonians Jessica Dalva and Jessica Cooper who absolutely KILLED it last night at La Luz De Jesus, even the God Himself, Robert Williams was seriously checking it out, I’m so proud of them!
